The idea of the free university education is undoubtedly one of the achievements of the 20th century, which saw its political leaders deeply engaged in a battle for social equality. The opinion that the poverty shouldnt be an obstacle on a way to education gained a wide consent among public but sown turned out to be lacking of practical basis. Of course it was largely implemented on the level of elementary and post-elementary education but the state proved to be too poor itself to afford costs of higher education for everyone that was willing to study after graduating from high schools. Among the countries that welcomed the free university education system and kept it till the fall of its structures were countries of socialist regime. Nowadays even the left-wing leaders seem to reject the utopia of overall free university education and opt for a some consensus no fees only for the best and most skilful students and this is a situation in most European countries. Some other countries, e.g., Italy, go even further and leave no place for free university education there everyone who wants to study has to pay for it.
